06/07/10 - Property Trade Body Clears The Air With In-House  Condensation Training

UK trade body the Property Care Association (PCA), has been spreading the word on condensation issues with a half-day in-house training session for Hertfordshire-based housing provider, Thrive Homes.

Stephen Hodgson, general manager of the PCA, delivered specialist training on the subject to an audience from the housing association – as well as local council employees and property residents who had also been invited along – highlighting why condensation occurs, how it can be diagnosed and how it can be reduced to a manageable level.

Known for offering a high standard of technical expertise and training in many areas of property care, including dampness, structural waterproofing, timber preservation and structural repair, the PCA has offered a comprehensive training and examination programme for many years.

Now the PCA, which has its headquarters in Huntingdon, has extended its remit to offer specialist in-house bespoke training to individual organisations, such as housing associations.

Choosing in-house training meant that Thrive Homes – which owns and manages 3700 rented and 440 leasehold homes across the Three Rivers District Council area – were able to invite people from outside their organisation, such as local council representatives, tenants and leaseholders, with the session tailored specifically for the audience.

James Shaw, Repairs Improvement Consultant at Thrive Homes, said: “We needed someone to come and give us some training on condensation who was not only a specialist on the subject, but could also be seen as providing an independent opinion.

“The training was a resounding success and I know from the attendees that I spoke to that the whole event was very well regarded.”

Dean Stevens, Mechanical and Electrical Surveyor for Thrive Homes, added: “The information we received was excellent and pitched at the correct level for the audience.”

Notes To Editors

About the PCA

The PCA is the UK trade body representing property professionals working in the areas of structural repair, damp proofing, timber preservation, structural waterproofing and flood remediation. The Association is a member of TrustMark, the scheme supported by the Government to help property owners find reliable and trustworthy tradespeople to make home improvements.

The PCA - which has high standards of vetting for potential contractor members and carries out rigorous audits on existing members – incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years.

As well as delivering a trusted repair procedure, PCA members are able to carry out specialist surveys as part of the house-buying procedure  to identify potential problems – as well as a range of other services  designed to preserve and protect homes and buildings across the UK.

To find a PCA member log on to http://www.property-care.org and select the ‘Find A Member’ service.
