23/02/10 - The PDA – Representing The Professional DecoratorPainting a property can have a transformational effect - but finding a trusted professional to do the job can be a challenge. The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) has thousands of members across the UK on hand to help householders with their property maintenance in the run up to Spring, who all measure up to highest standards of competency. Before being accepted for membership of the trade body, companies and individuals are rigorously vetted and prospective members have to fulfil a number of requirements, including the production of evidence of more than five year’s experience in the industry. They are also obliged to carry adequate public liability insurance and references. Once accepted, members are then subjected to random checks to ensure high standards are maintained. Neil Ogilvie, National President of the PDA, which has its headquarters in Nuneaton, said: “Painters and decorators come into people’s homes and householders want to know that person or company is to be trusted. “Membership of the PDA verifies that an individual or company meets a set criteria and ensures that professionalism comes as standard. “This brings piece of mind for consumers that the painter they have selected is a genuine one. “There are stringent processes in place that individuals and companies need to meet in order to join us and membership of the Association is not automatic.” The PDA has a telephone number where members of the public can check that a painter is a bona fide member of the Association – 024 7635 3776. Yellow Pages adverts also carrying a PDA corporate advert which includes a listing of many members of the PDA, and some members are also listed on the website www.paintingdecoratingassociation.co.uk About the PDA The Painting and Decorating Association was established in July 2002, following a merger of the British Decorators’ Association and the Painting & Decorating Federation. The British Decorators’ Association was originally founded in 1894. This organisation is Britain's largest trade body, dedicated to the painting and decorating trade. Members include sole traders through to large-scale national contractors employing hundreds of operatives. Decorators looking to become members of the PDA are rigorously vetted prior to admission. Members are committed to the highest standards in health and safety practice, as well as training development. The PDA is proud of its long history and high standards, and a registered member can be relied upon to do a good professional job at a fair price. Press Release issued by Jane Shepherd, Shepherd PR.
